Judy was an astute observer of the human form. Rodin’s sculpture was an inspiration for her art. Judy would employ models from the local area to pose in a series of sessions. She made measurements of the body to be as realistic as possible in her works.

With small figures, Judy continued to create realistic bronze figurative sculpture, but at a more approachable price point. Her alphabet series featured “little women” posed in different letters of the alphabet. She continued that series with little girls – below you can see examples of each. The photo of the three girls on top of books spells out CAL.

With five children of her own, Judy spent lots of time with children. But she carved out time for herself to spend on her art – while still finding opportunities to spend time with her children. Many of her bronzes have the faces of her children. They sat for hours for measurements and photos so she could continue her sculpting while they were at school or at play. Her children were models for her art – in real life and through photos.
